Congress Govt upholds secularism and welfare: Telangana minister at iftar Event

Hyderabad, Mar 23 (UNI) Telangana Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Capt N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Sunday reaffirmed the Congress government’s commitment to secularism and minority welfare during an Iftar program in Kodad and Huzurnagar.
Extending Ramzan greetings, he emphasised the party’s dedication to inclusive governance and communal harmony.
He highlighted the Rs 3,591 crore allocation for Minority Welfare in the 2025–26 Telangana budget, the highest in the state’s history. The funds will support education, infrastructure, religious institutions, and economic assistance. A key initiative is the Rs 840 crore Rajiv Yuva Vikasam scheme, aimed at self-employment opportunities for minority youth through skill development and financial aid.
Earlier, Reddy, along with senior leaders, visited Janapahad Dargah and participated in a review meeting on development projects in Nalgonda. He announced that fine rice (Sanna Biyyam) distribution to white ration card holders will begin on March 30, benefiting 84 per cent of Telangana’s population with six kilograms per person monthly. He defended replacing coarse rice (Doddu Biyyam), citing misuse and resale.
On irrigation, he criticised the previous BRS government for allowing Andhra Pradesh to overdraw Krishna River water, causing a crisis in Telangana’s reservoirs. He assured that the Congress government will prioritize pending irrigation projects, including Gandamalla, Dindi, and Nellikallu, and revive lift irrigation systems under Nagarjuna Sagar.
A high-level review meeting on the SLBC project, chaired by CM A. Revanth Reddy, is scheduled for Monday. The Minister assured that the temporary halt in SLBC works is due to an ongoing rescue operation and that construction will resume soon. UNI VV SSP
