Karnataka LoP Ashoka accuses Speaker of backing Cong for ministerial berth

Bengaluru, Apr 2 (UNI) Opposition leader in Karnataka Legislative Council R Ashoka on Wednesday accused Speaker UT Khader of aligning with the Congress government to secure a ministerial position by taking action against opposition members.
He warned of an intense protest if the suspension order against 18 MLAs was not revoked.
Speaking to reporters at Vidhana Soudha, Ashoka said the MLAs had staged a protest against the reservation granted to Muslim contractors and in condemnation of the honeytrap case.
He asserted that had Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced an investigation through the CBI or SIT, or provided any clarification, the protest could have been withdrawn. However, he alleged that Speaker Khader did not even extend the courtesy of engaging with the suspended MLAs.
"The Speaker’s chair is highly respectable, yet while he welcomes people for photographs, he suspends MLAs for protesting near the podium," Ashoka remarked, strongly demanding the immediate revocation of the suspension order. UNI BDN SSP
