Liquor prohibition law and dial-112 effective in reducing riots in Bihar

Patna, Apr 7 (UNI) Liquor prohibition law and dial-112 service effectively reduced crime and riots in Bihar where communal riots declined three times during the past 20 years.
The Director General of Police Vinay Kumar said here on Monday that it was all possible following the execution of total prohibition in 2016 and the launch of dial 112 services in 2021.
He said that 9199 riots were recorded in 2004, which declined to 3186 in 2024.
According to him, 8520 riots were reported in 2001, which went up to 9199 in 2004.
With 13311 riots cases, it further increased in 2015, but after the implementation of the prohibition law in 2016, it sharply declined, with 11617 cases of riots recorded.
Lauding the efforts of dial 112 services, the DGP said that the riots further declined with the initiation of the service, as 6298 cases of riots were recorded in the year.
The riot cases further kept on declining, and till date, in 2025, only 205 cases of riots have been reported, he added.
The DGP said that the police headquarters were constantly monitoring to control the riot cases across the state.
