Unnao (UP), May 4 (UNI) One person was killed and 26 others were injured when a luxury sleeper bus hit a trailer in the Auras area of Unnao district here in Uttar Pradesh, a police officer said here on Sunday.
Circle Officer (CO) Bangarmau Arvind Kumar said that the police received information about the accident at 1:30 pm on Saturday night.
"On reaching the spot, the police found that the accident had occurred on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway under the Auras police station area of the district in which the luxury sleeper bus collided with the trailer truck moving ahead," he said.
He said that 36 passengers were travelling in the bus at the time of the incident. "All the passengers were taken out, and 26 injured were taken to Community Health Centre (CHC) Auras. "11 people having serious injuries were referred to the Trauma Centre," he said.
The CO said that the bus driver Harendra (50), a resident of Punjab, died in the incident. "Investigation revealed that the bus had collided with a trailer going ahead. The helper of the bus said that the driver had fallen asleep, due to which this accident happened," he said.
He said that the bus was going from Delhi to Gorakhpur, in which passengers from Basti, Kushinagar, Gorakhpur and other districts were travelling. "The truck driver fled from the spot after the incident," he said.
