Telangana, Punjab CMs, Leaders started arriving for Delimitation meeting

Chennai, Mar 21 (UNI) Top leaders from several states, including Telangana Chief
Minister Revanth Reddy and his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann, have started
arriving for tomorrow's crucial delimitation meeting convened by Tamil Nadu Chief
Minister and DMK President M K Stalin.
TN Ministers were present at the airport to receive the leaders, who were escorted
to the ITC Grand Chola hotel where the meeting would be held to discuss the issue
as the proposed exercise based on present population by the BJP Government at
the Centre would result in several states, including the southern states, facing
reduction in the number of Lok Sabha seats.
The State government has arranged for a media briefing at noon tomorrow after the
meeting to announce the decisions taken at the meeting.
Political leaders from seven states, including Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan
and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar will take part in the meeting.
Apart from three Chief Ministers and the Deputy Chief Minister, former CMs and
representatives of more than 20 political parties from seven non-BJP ruled states,
including all the Southern states, will participate in the meeting convened by the
DMK in line with the resolutions adopted at an all-party meeting convened by it
here on March five.
Invitations have been extended personally by senior DMK leaders to Chief Ministers
and leaders of political parties on the directions of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and
DMK President M.K. Stalin, who has taken the lead as TN stands to lose eight of
the total 39 seats, reducing its parliamentary representation.
The southern states too stands to lose their parliamentary representation in view of
the exercise.
Mr Stalin said the population-based exercise was aimed at punishing the states, which had
effectively implemented population-control measures and contributed significantly to Nation's
progress, development and growth.
Meanwhile, sand sculptures were created on the sands of Marina featuring the images of
Mr Stalin and with the slogans "Tamil Nadu will fight...Tamil Nadu will win" and the Ripon
Buildings, housing the Chennai Corporation and the Office of Mayor, was tastefully
illuminated and decorated to mark the occasion.
