Odisha: One passenger dies, 3 injured after Express train derails near Nergundi station

Bhubaneswar, Mar 30 (UNI) One passenger died, and three others were injured after the 12551 Bangalore-Kamakhya AC Superfast Express derailed near Nergundi Station in the Cuttack-Nergundi Railway Section of Khurda Road Division of East Coast Railway on Sunday.

An ECOR statement said, 'In a tragic incident today, the Bangalore-Kamakhya AC Superfast Express derailed near Nergundi Station, resulting in the unfortunate death of one passenger and leaving three others injured. The accident occurred early this morning, and immediate rescue operations were launched by local authorities.'

The statement further said, 'One Suvankar Roy (Male, 22 years) tragically lost his life in the incident. One female passenger suffered grievous injury, and two other male passengers are being treated for simple injury.

The Railway has announced an ex-gratia of Rs five lakh to the next kins of the deceased, Rs 2.50 lakh for grievous and RS 50,000 for simple injuries.

Immediate medical assistance has been provided to the injured passengers, and the necessary compensation has been paid to the victims' families, the ECOR said.

Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) will hold the detailed inquiry of the incident of derailment of coaches of 12551 Bangalore-Kamakhya AC SF Express. Efforts are underway to restore normalcy to the affected routes as soon as possible. Safety protocols have been strictly followed during the rescue operations.

The Railway has extended its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and wish the injured passengers a speedy recovery.

Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), South Eastern Circle, Kolkata under the Ministry of Civil Aviation Brijesh Mishra will inspect the derailment site of Bangalore-Kamakhya AC SF Express tonight.

Meanwhile, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi in his social media post said, 'reviewed the condition of the injured passengers from the Kamakhya Express derailment near Nirgundi station in #cuttack. The Odisha government will ensure they receive the best medical care and cover all healthcare expenses. Wishing them a speedy recovery. Rescue and relief operations remain a priority."
