Prez, PM Modi, Shah, Odisha CM greet people of Odisha on formation of separate state

Bhubaneswar, Apr 1 (UNI) President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday extended warm wishes to the people of Odisha on the occasion of the state’s formation, observed as Utkal Divas.
Taking to her X handle, Murmu said, “It is an occasion to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Odisha and remarkable contribution of its people in various fields."
The warm and hospitable people of Odisha have worked hard for the progress of the state while preserving its glorious tradition, she stated.
Odisha, the President said, has played an important role in the freedom struggle and produced several makers of modern India.
“I pray to Mahaprabhu Jagannath for peace and prosperity of Odisha,” Murmu tweeted.
Taking to his X handle, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Warm wishes on Utkal Dibas. This day is a fitting tribute to Odisha’s glorious culture.”
He further stated that India takes pride in Odisha’s history, literature, and music, and praised the hardworking people of Odisha who have excelled in diverse fields.
“Over the last year, the Centre and the Odisha government have been working extensively to further the state’s progress,” Modi tweeted.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended greetings to the people of Odisha on Utkal Divas.
“Heartfelt greetings to our sisters and brothers of Odisha on the occasion of Odisha Day,” Shah said in his post on X.
He further added, “A state endowed with a glorious cultural heritage and immense natural resources, Odisha has always been a jewel in Bharat's pride. Today, the state is moving forward to become Bharat's growth engine.”
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi paid homage to the statue of Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das near the Raj Bhawan.
In his message on the occasion of Odisha Day, Majhi said, “From April 1, ‘Odisha Day,’ to April 14, ‘Odia New Year,’ we are celebrating these 14 days as ‘Odia Paksha.’
“May every moment of this ‘Odia Paksha’ be a time of inspiration for Odias in terms of self-respect, culture, tradition, and unity,” the Chief Minister stated.
He further said, “May Odia festivals be a celebration of our language, literature, food, clothing, dance, music, and culture.”
During this period, he said, “We will remember and honor the great personalities and the brave individuals whose sacrifices led to the unification of a fragmented Odisha in 1936.
“Let us embrace our Odia identity in mind, soul, and heart. Let us integrate the Odia language, literature, food, clothing, and culture into our daily lives and build a proud Odisha,” the Chief Minister added.
He also expressed hope that the Odia New Year and Mahavishub Sankranti would mark a new endeavor for Odia language, literature, and culture, providing a new vision and opportunity for a developed Odisha. Majhi called upon the people of the state to celebrate ‘Odia Paksha’ with enthusiasm in villages, cities, and every home from April 1 to April 14
April 1 is celebrated as Utkal Divas across Odisha as the day marks the formation of a separate Odisha province on April 1, 1936.
Odisha Day, also known as Odisha Divas, is celebrated in memory of the formation of a politically separate state under British rule on a linguistic basis, separating it from the Bihar and Odisha province and incorporating the undivided Koraput and Ganjam districts from the Madras Presidency.
