Punjab: Fresh FIR registered in alleged police assault on Army Colonel

Chandigarh, Mar 21 (UNI) A fresh case was registered on Friday based on the complaint of an Army Colonel who was allegedly assaulted in a police station in Patiala earlier this month.
Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bali filed the complaint on March 14 alleging he was assaulted by police officials the night before. The Colonel's statement of Colonel Bath names the police officials who assaulted him and also describes each person's role in the assault.
A high-level Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by SPS Parmar, Additional Director General of Police, Law & Order, Punjab, has been constituted by the Director, Bureau of Investigation, Punjab for conducting the investigation fairly and expeditiously.
The SIT has been directed to conduct the investigation on day-to-day basis for collection of evidences and further legal proceedings, in order to ensure that the culprits are proceeded against as per law.
A Punjab police spokesperson stated that instructions have been issued to DIG Patiala Range to immediately transfer the concerned police officials out of district Patiala, so that the investigation can be conducted fairly.
He further added that all the 12 concerned police officials have been placed under suspension and Departmental Proceedings for major punishment have been initiated against them.

Chandigarh, Mar 21 (UNI) Haryana's Minister of Energy, Transport and Labour, Anil Vij, took a swipe at Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday by commenting that he had "no understanding" of national politics, and his focus is "more on Pakistan."
Vij was responding to questions regarding Abdullah’s statement that Article 370 was not meant to protect Kashmiris, but rather to protect the people of Jammu from the people of Punjab
