Southwest Monsoon likely to advance into Andaman Sea by Tuesday: Met

Hyderabad, May 12 (UNI) The Meteorological Centre in Hyderabad reported on Monday that conditions are favourable for the southwest monsoon to advance into some parts of the Andaman Sea, the South Bay of Bengal, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands by Tuesday.

In its daily weather report, the Centre stated that conditions are also becoming favourable for the further advance of the monsoon into additional parts of the South Bay of Bengal, the entire Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and parts of the central Bay of Bengal over the next four to five days.

A trough is currently extending from central Bihar to southern Jharkhand up to 1.5 km above mean sea level. In addition, an upper air cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea around May 14.

Under its influence, heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Rayalaseema from May 13 to 16, and in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on May 14 and 15.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds ranging from 40–60 kmph are expected at isolated places in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema over the next five days.

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are also likely at many places—or at least a few places—in these regions over the next seven days.

During the last 24 hours, rainfall was recorded at one or two places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema, the report added.
