Hyderabad, Apr 2 (UNI) Telangana Roads, Buildings, and Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy announced that the Indian Air Force (IAF) has approved the establishment of a civil airport in Adilabad.
He extended his best wishes to the people of Adilabad and Telangana, highlighting that this approval follows the recent green signal for Mamunur Airport. He credited the Telangana government's relentless efforts for securing permissions for two airports within six months, an official statement said on Wednesday.
Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy revealed that the IAF, through an official letter (Letter No.: 5608/Airports/2024, Date: 18.12.2024), has expressed its willingness to facilitate the development of Adilabad Airport for civil aviation services.
The letter also indicates the possibility of setting up an Air Force training center at the site in the future. He emphasised that the IAF has granted the necessary permissions to commence civil aviation operations in the region.
The Minister explained that the IAF has suggested developing Adilabad Airport as a joint user airfield, accommodating both civil and Air Force aircraft movements.
Infrastructure enhancements, including runway reconstruction, a civil terminal, and the development of an aircraft apron for parking and operational needs, have been recommended. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has been asked to provide the required land for these developments.
Additionally, the AAI has requested the IAF to submit detailed proposals to secure all necessary permissions for the airport. Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy confirmed that officials are reviewing the next steps and will compile a comprehensive report to be submitted to the Central government and relevant departments soon.
Expressing gratitude, Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, and Telangana Chief Minister Enumula Revanth Reddy for their support in obtaining approvals for both Mamunur and Adilabad airports.
