Agartala, May 17 (UNI) Lok Sabha MP and former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kr Deb on Saturday claimed that the policy for women empowerment, launched in 2022 during his tenure as CM, has been yielding good results. Tripura has been offering concessions on land registration in women’s names, providing ration shops to women, and easier access to loans for women.
He said women entrepreneurship in Tripura has reached a new height after BJP came to power in 2018, ending the communist misrule over 35 years. The Central government has several initiatives for the holistic development of society, especially for women, and the BJP government in Tripura has been harnessing the benefits of it.
Deb highlighted the far-reaching impact of the policy, which was officially launched by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on International Women’s Day in 2022, and Rs 400 crore was allocated for the policy. Under the initiative number of women Self-Help Groups has increased to 53,036, with over 4.76 lakh women.
The policy, Deb mentioned, prioritized women’s economic and social independence as a key step toward ensuring their true dignity. Deb stated, adding that the policy guaranteed 33% reservation for women in all government jobs and outsourced recruitment in the state.
It also introduced several initiatives to support women in higher education, including educational loans at a 3% interest rate from banks and other financial institutions. For the first time in the state, a 10% reservation was given for the recruitment of women in the police.
