'Namaste New Zealand' is platform to connect young generation with Indian culture and heritage: Bihar Speaker

Patna, Sep 27 (UNI) Bihar Legislative Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar has said cultural programmes organised abroad are a powerful means of taking Indian culture, traditions and heritage to the younger generation and connecting them with their cultural roots.
According to information received from the Bihar Legislative Assembly Secretariat, Kumar, during his visit to New Zealand, attended the 'Namaste New Zealand 2026' cultural festival as the chief guest. The event was organised by the Consulate General of India in Auckland at the Shri Swaminarayan Temple premises in Papatoetoe.
Addressing the gathering, he said India was not merely a country but a rich legacy of thousands of years of civilisation, culture and traditions. Indian languages, festivals, music, dance, family values and way of life form an integral part of the country's distinct identity.
The Assembly Speaker said people of Indian origin living abroad continue to remain connected with their cultural roots while making significant contributions to New Zealand's progress. He stressed that it was particularly important to connect the younger generation with their cultural heritage. Exposure to Indian music, dance, languages and traditions helps children and young people develop a sense of identity and pride in their heritage.
Kumar said that along with economic progress and modernity, it was equally important to remain connected with one's cultural roots. He noted that the Consulate General of India in Auckland has been making continuous efforts to take Indian culture, languages and values to the younger generation.
He said such events play an important role in further strengthening relations between India and New Zealand. Both countries believe in democratic values, respect for diversity and the spirit of a multicultural society. The Indian community in New Zealand, he said, serves as an important bridge of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
The Assembly Speaker extended his best wishes to the artists, volunteers, community organisations and organisers for the success of 'Namaste New Zealand 2026'. He expressed hope that the event would grow in scale in the coming years and continue to serve as a platform for taking India's cultural heritage to future generations.
Consul General of India in Auckland Madan Mohan Sethi, New Zealand MP Parmjeet Parmar and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
