Bengal BJP shake-up natural process, says Dilip Ghosh; rules out tickets for turncoats

Kolkata, Sep 27 (UNI) West Bengal Panchayat Minister Dilip Ghosh has ruled out the possibility of the BJP fielding turncoats from the Trinamool Congress in the forthcoming municipal elections, while defending the recent organisational reshuffle in the state BJP.
Speaking on a range of issues concerning the state’s political situation, Ghosh said the BJP was not in such a weak position that it needed to induct leaders from the TMC merely to contest municipal polls.
“The BJP is not in such a bad condition that we need to bring people from the Trinamool Congress. Otherwise, five years will pass in this exercise again,” he said.
On the recent organisational changes in the BJP, Ghosh said the reshuffle was necessitated by several leaders taking up government positions, leaving organisational posts vacant.
“The reshuffle was due. Many leaders have gone into government positions, creating vacancies in the organisation. This is a natural process. We had fought for so long as an Opposition party; now, as the ruling party, the responsibility is much greater. The organisation also needs training and changes accordingly,” he said.
Ghosh also spoke in favour of greater attention to tourism in Bengal. He said the state had considerable tourism potential but lacked adequate planning and development for years.
“For a long time, the West Bengal Tourism Department had neither proper information nor any clear thinking. Despite having so many places with immense potential, there was little development. The government has now started paying attention to the sector,” he said.
On Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Ghosh said political controversy surrounding a constitutional office should not undermine its dignity.
“There is too much discussion and politics over Gyanesh Kumar. There is no evidence. The Chief Election Commissioner holds a constitutional post and any political party may target him after losing an election. We must remember that the Chief Election Commissioner is a constitutional authority and the dignity of the office must be maintained,” he said.
Ghosh also criticised TMC leader Kunal Ghosh over his recent visit to Uttarpara, describing the episode as “drama” and questioning the purpose of his visit. UNI RC NST SAS
