‘Unacceptable use of force’: Omar Abdullah condemns Delhi Police action against MP John Brittas

Srinagar, Oct 11 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday condemned the alleged assault on CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas by Delhi Police, describing the incident as an unacceptable use of force against an unarmed protester.
Reacting to a post by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) alleging that Brittas was brutally attacked by Delhi Police and later dropped by the roadside in an injured condition, Omar said the use of force was indefensible under any circumstances.
“Unacceptable use of force by Delhi Police. Beating up an unarmed protestor, setting aside the fact that in this case the victim is actually an elected member of parliament, is unacceptable under any circumstances & is indefensible,” Omar said in a post on X.
He said he joined his colleagues in the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference in condemning what he described as “reprehensible brutality”.
The CPI(M), in its post, alleged that Brittas was attacked by Delhi Police during a protest and was later left by the roadside, visibly injured and in distress. The party accused the police of crossing all limits.
