Religious fairs linked to faith, traditions a priority of Himachal govt: Goma

Dharamshala, Sep 19 (UNI): Himachal Pradesh Ayush and Sports Minister Yadvinder Goma said preservation and promotion of fairs associated with the state's religious faith, folk culture and traditions was a priority of the state government.
Addressing a cultural evening organised as part of the Durgashwar Mahadev Dal Lake Fair here late Friday evening, Goma said such events not only preserve the state's rich cultural heritage but also help connect the younger generation with its traditions and folk culture.
He appreciated the efforts being made by Kewal Singh Pathania, Deputy Chief Whip for the development and preservation of Dal Lake and announced Rs 51,000 for promoting cultural activities during the fair.
Pathania said Dal Lake was an important religious and tourist destination and was also known as 'Chhota Manimahesh'. He said a large number of devotees visit the lake every year.
He said Rs 1.50 crore was being spent on the lake's rejuvenation, with around 70 per cent of the work already completed. Water accumulation at Dal Lake had become possible after nearly 25 years.
Pathania said coordinated efforts of all concerned departments would be undertaken for the beautification and cleanliness of the lake, expansion of basic facilities and provision of better amenities to tourists and devotees, he added.
He also announced Rs 50,000 for the fair organising committee, while the local hotel association presented a cheque of Rs 25,000.
Folk artistes from different parts of Himachal Pradesh enthralled the audience with folk songs, dances and traditional performances, drawing loud applause and participation in traditional dances.
Wool Federation Chairman Manoj Thakur, local representatives, administrative and departmental officials, temple committee members, prominent citizens, devotees and local residents were present on the occasion.
