2 COVID-19 cases detected in Arunachal; no cause for panic: Health official

Itanagar, May 27 (UNI) Two new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Arunachal Pradesh through RT-PCR tests conducted at the Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL), Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) in Naharlagun on Tuesday.
State Surveillance Officer, IDSP, Dr Lobsang Jampa said in a statement that the first case involves a 34-year-old woman, who is currently 21 weeks into her pregnancy. She had reported symptoms of fever and mild cough and was initially tested positive for the infection using the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) at Ramakrishna Mission Hospital (RKMH) in Itanagar on Monday. The patient had arrived in the state capital from Bengaluru by flight on May 13 last.
The second case is the patient’s 53-year-old mother, who also tested positive via RT-PCR. She is currently asymptomatic.
Health officials have urged the public to remain calm, stating that there is no immediate cause for panic. A detailed public health advisory will be issued soon after consultation with the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Delhi.
The Health Department continues to monitor the situation closely and is taking all necessary precautions to prevent further spread of the virus, Dr Jampa said.
