23-year-old sentenced to 20 years in Panchkula POCSO Case

Panchkula, Sep 25 (UNI) A 23-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 52,000 by a Fast Track Special POCSO Court in Panchkula in a case registered in 2024.
The accused was convicted under Section 6 of the POCSO Act by the court of Additional Sessions Judge Manish Dua. He was also sentenced to two years’ rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 2,000 under Section 506 of the IPC. Both sentences will run concurrently.
According to DCP Panchkula Aditi Singh, the court has prescribed additional imprisonment in case of non-payment of the respective fines.
Panchkula Police said that following registration of the case, the investigation was conducted promptly and necessary legal and procedural steps were completed, leading to the prosecution and conviction of the accused.
Police Commissioner Pankaj Nain said Panchkula Police follows a zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women and children, with focus on prompt action, sensitive investigation and effective prosecution.
Nain urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant about children’s safety and avoid placing blind trust in any individual.
He also stressed the importance of regular, open communication with children and being attentive to significant changes in their behaviour.
