32K oil palm saplings planted in a day across Rangareddy

Hyderabad, June 28 (UNI) In a major push to promote commercial agriculture, about 32,000 oil palm saplings were planted on 557 acres across various mandals of Rangareddy district of Telangana in a single day on Saturday.
The initiative covered lands belonging to 111 farmers in Chevella, Manchala, Kandukuru, Talakondapalli, and Farukhnagar mandals.
Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao participated in a programme at Devuni Erravelli village of Chevella mandal, along with local MLA Kale Yadayya.
Highlighting the government's efforts to support oil palm cultivation, the Minister said the price of oil palm produce has increased from Rs 12,000 to Rs 18,748 per ton since the new government came to power. “Oil palm is a long-term commercial crop that provides income for nearly 30 years,” he said.
The Minister announced a target to plant oil palm on 5,000 acres in the united Rangareddy district by the end of next month and directed officials to ensure timely execution. He also assured that drip irrigation equipment would be provided with subsidies for oil palm, horticultural, and intercrop cultivation.
Chevella MLA Kale Yadayya stressed the need for subsidized drip equipment, pack houses under the MIDH scheme, and drones for agricultural use. He also proposed relocating the Gudi Malkapur flower and vegetable market to Aziznagar.
Responding to these demands, Minister Tummala reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting self-sufficiency in vegetable and milk production by encouraging farmers to adopt horticulture and dairy farming.
Public representatives from the joint district, along with officials from the agriculture and horticulture departments, actively participated in the plantation drive.
