745 drunken driving cases booked in Hyderabad, Cyberabad over weekend

Hyderabad, Oct 11 (UNI) Hyderabad and Cyberabad traffic police booked a total of 745 drunken driving cases during special enforcement drives conducted over the weekend on October 9 and 10 to ensure road safety.
According to separate police statements, Hyderabad Traffic Police caught 480 motorists driving under the influence of alcohol, including 411 two-wheeler riders, 30 three-wheeler drivers, 38 four-wheeler and other vehicle drivers.
In Cyberabad, 265 offenders were apprehended, including 237 two-wheeler riders, five three-wheeler drivers, 20 four-wheeler drivers and three heavy vehicle drivers.
Cyberabad Traffic Police said all the offenders would be produced before the court. They warned that drunken driving resulting in a fatal accident could attract charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine.
Meanwhile, 97 drunken driving cases were disposed of by Cyberabad courts between October 5 and 10. Of these, 91 offenders were fined, while six were sentenced to a fine and social service.
Both traffic police units reiterated their zero-tolerance policy towards drunken driving and urged motorists to cooperate with enforcement teams.
