Congress leader questions Venkaiah Naidu's defence of EC over voter deletions

Hyderabad, Oct 11 (UNI) Pulipati Rajesh Kumar, chairman of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee's Election Commission Coordination Committee, on Sunday questioned former Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu's defence of the Election Commission over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, raising concerns about the deletion of eligible voters.
In a statement, Rajesh Kumar said it was regrettable that Naidu had described concerns over indiscriminate voter deletions as a misconception, arguing that such remarks could undermine public confidence amid fears that eligible voters might be excluded from electoral rolls.
Referring to reports of around 91 lakh voter deletions in West Bengal, he questioned how many affected voters had appealed and how many had subsequently regained their voting rights.
He also alleged that pre-filled Form-7 applications had been submitted by BJP Booth Level Agents in Musheerabad constituency in Telangana, seeking the deletion of 31 voters, including a Congress BLA and his family members. He questioned whether similar attempts had occurred in other constituencies.
Rajesh Kumar further referred to Venkaiah Naidu's account of receiving an SIR notice seeking his 2002 voter details and subsequently obtaining the records with the help of officials in states where he had worked. He questioned whether ordinary citizens could access similar assistance to retrieve old electoral records.
He urged that concerns over voter deletions be addressed and the difficulties faced by ordinary voters in establishing their eligibility be taken into account.
