BJP plans intensified stir against Karnataka govt over SIR, drought

Bengaluru, Oct 11 (UNI) The Karnataka BJP is deliberating on intensifying its agitation against the Congress government over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleged failures in drought management and the registration of FIRs against party workers, as the party’s core committee met here on Sunday to formulate its political and organisational strategy.
The meeting, held at the state BJP headquarters under the leadership of party co-in-charge KS Venkateshwaran, is expected to finalise the party’s next course of action against the state government.
State in-charge Harish Dwivedi could not attend following the death of his mother. Former chief minister BS Yediyurappa arrived at the party office to participate in the deliberations.
The SIR issue is among the key subjects before the committee, with the BJP preparing to step up its opposition to the Congress government’s position on electoral roll revision. Party leaders are also expected to discuss FIRs registered against BJP workers in connection with the issue and explore ways to expand the agitation.
The party has already been protesting over the matter and is considering taking its campaign to a larger scale. The core committee is expected to discuss the nature of the protests, their organisational reach and the strategy to mobilise party workers against the government.
Drought management is another important issue on the agenda. The BJP is preparing to target the Congress government over its handling of drought-related concerns, with the party leadership expected to assess the situation and decide how to raise the issue politically.
The meeting also assumes significance in view of the upcoming by-elections and elections to four Legislative Council seats. The committee is expected to review the political situation, discuss electoral preparations and assess the party’s organisational priorities ahead of the contests.
The deliberations are taking place amid an intensifying political confrontation between the ruling Congress and the opposition BJP in Karnataka.
With SIR, FIRs against party workers and drought management emerging as key points of contention, the BJP leadership is seeking to coordinate its response and determine the direction of its campaign against the government.
The outcome of the meeting is expected to shape the BJP’s forthcoming agitation programme and its broader strategy to challenge the Congress government on electoral and governance issues.
