Actor Mithun Chakraborty appointed advisor to West Bengal Info & Cultural Dept

Kolkata, Oct 7 (UNI) Veteran actor-turned-politician Mithun Chakraborty has been appointed as an adviser to the West Bengal Information and Cultural Department with cabinet rank.
The state, through a notification issued on October 6 at the behest of the Personnel and Administrative Reforms (PAR) Cell, appointed Chakraborty to the said post until further orders.
The notification further stated that the appointment had been made in the ‘public interest’.
The appointment comes weeks after Chakraborty proposed a 30 per cent subsidy for films coming to West Bengal for shooting. At a programme held on September 3 to commemorate the birth centenary of legendary Bengali actor Uttam Kumar, Chakraborty said he had put forward the proposal to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
“If we want to take West Bengal's film industry back to its days of glory, I have one special request — a 30 per cent subsidy from Bengal,” Chakraborty said, adding that the Chief Minister's response was “It shall be done.”
Chakraborty said the proposed incentive would not necessarily be paid in cash but could instead be adjusted against taxes. He said he would discuss the proposal with representatives of the film industry and federations and place the details before the Chief Minister.
Adhikari, in turn, assured the film fraternity of government support and cleared Chakraborty's proposal. UNI TC NST CDS
