Ahilyanagar: Gang promising to double money through ‘cash rain’ busted

Ahilyanagar, Sep 29 (UNI) The Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Ahilyanagar police has busted a gang allegedly involved in circulating counterfeit Indian currency by promising people to double their money through a so-called ‘cash rain’ scheme.
Three accused from Baramati in Pune district have been arrested, and counterfeit currency with a face value of approximately ₹92 lakh has been seized.
The action was taken within the jurisdiction of the MIDC Police Station in Ahilyanagar following confidential information received by the Local Crime Branch while gathering intelligence about illegal activities in the area.
Acting on the tip-off, a police team raided the residence of Ganesh Dilip Shewale at Vinayak Colony on Vadgaon Road in Ahilyanagar.
During the search, officers allegedly recovered counterfeit Indian currency notes and bundles of blank paper used in the manufacture of fake notes.
The arrested accused have been identified as Ganesh Dilip Shewale, Ashoknagar, Baramati; Sumit Vikas Chandanshive, Baramati; and Suraj Vasant Kamble, Baramati, all from Pune district.
Police seized property worth a total of ₹1.03 crore from the accused, including counterfeit currency with a face value of around ₹92 lakh.
During the investigation, Ganesh Shewale allegedly revealed that the counterfeit notes had been procured from two associates, Pratap Dhumal and Ashok Bhimraj Darkunde, both residents of Ahilyanagar who are currently absconding.
He also reportedly disclosed that a man identified only as Ammu, from Malegaon in Nashik district, had supplied the fake currency in exchange for ₹25,000.
Police are continuing their investigation to trace the absconding suspects and establish the full extent of the counterfeit currency network.
The operation was carried out by a team from the Local Crime Branch under the leadership of Police Inspector Santosh Mutkule, following the directions and guidance of Superintendent of Police Mummaka Sudarshan and Additional Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Kalubarme.
