Maha: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader shot dead in Thane

Mumbai, Sep 29 (UNI) Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Pradeep Purnekar alias Bala was shot dead after unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire at him in the Manormanagar-Ganesh Nagar area of neighbouring Thane city late tonight, police said.
According to preliminary information, the incident took place under the jurisdiction of Kapurbawdi police station when the assailants fired two rounds at Purnekar and fled from the spot.
Purnekar, who was associated with Shiv Sena (UBT) as a division chief in the area, sustained critical injuries in the firing. He was immediately rushed to Infinity Hospital near R Mall for emergency treatment.
Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment, police said.
Following the incident, senior police officials reached the spot and began collecting information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Police teams have been deployed to trace the assailants and ascertain their identity and motive.
The police are examining CCTV camera footage from the area and questioning people who may have witnessed the incident.
Further details regarding the circumstances leading to the attack and the identity of the accused are awaited.
Purnekar had been active in local political activities in the Ghodbunder-Manpada area. He had figured in a police case in September 2025 after an incident involving the alleged vandalism of television sets at hotels in Thane.
Following the incident police deployed heavy bandobast in the area while further investigstion is ongoing.

Nashik Collector forms probe panel to investigate irregularities in onion procurement

Nashik, Sep 29 (UNI) The Nashik district administration has invited complaints from onion farmers, farmer producer organisations, traders and other stakeholders regarding alleged irregularities and mismanagement in the onion procurement process for the 2026–27 season.
The Maharashtra government’s Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection has constituted an inquiry committee under the chairmanship of Nashik District Collector Ayush Prasad through a government resolution dated September 29, 2026.
