Kolhapur, Sindhudurg, Oct 3 (UNI) An AI-based 'Smart Farming' pilot project for mango and cashew farmers was inaugurated by State minister Nitesh Rane on Saturday.
Due to changing weather conditions, mango and cashew fruit crops in Sindhudurg district have been affected in the last one and a half-two years. To reduce the effects of climate change and to enable farmers to practice sustainable farming, it is necessary to provide modern technology, the minister noted.
Nitesh Rane expressed his belief that this initiative will bring about a technological revolution in the agricultural sector of Sindhudurg.
Rane, who is also Sindhudurg district guardian minister, said the project will be implemented by the Agriculture Department under the Sindhuratna Samriddhi Yojana through Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Agricultural Development Trust, Baramati. A total of 400 farmers, including 200 mango growers and 200 cashew growers, will be included in this project in all eight talukas of the district.
Rane said, various sustainable measures are being taken at the agricultural university and government level to reduce the effects of climate change. At the same time, efforts are being made to find solutions to the challenges facing agriculture through AI technology.
"Many countries in the world are using modern technology effectively in agriculture. Farmers in Sindhudurg will not be left behind in terms of technology, for this technology is being added to agriculture in the district," he said.
The use of modern technology in agriculture is important to make the farmer stand on his own feet. It is also necessary to think about how new technology and AI can be used to attract the coming generation to agriculture, he observed.
Technology-based initiatives will be implemented in every sector to boost the per capita income of the district to Rs 4.50 lakh. This initiative will be implemented transparently. This initiative will be important to bring about transformation in the agricultural sector, he said.
