AP: Central team appreciates Mana Mitra WhatsApp initiative

Vijayawada, Oct 31 (UNI) The Central team, led by Joint Secretary to Ministry of Home Affairs Chitranjan Das, appreciated the Andhra Pradesh government’s Mana Mitra WhatApp initiative to mitigate the Arnab cyclone problems.

Das appreciated that the Mana Mitra WhatsApp Governance is an innovative idea. Even people who cannot read or write are able to use WhatsApp easily, he said.

“The idea of receiving grievances from the public through WhatsApp during disasters like cyclones and addressing them from time to time is excellent. The way RTGS resolved these grievances promptly is also commendable. This is a very good initiative. All states need to follow this approach. We will submit a recommendation to the Central Government to ensure that all states adopt this system,” Das extolled.

During the cyclone, a facility was provided through Mana Mitra WhatsApp Governance for people living in the cyclone hit areas to share their problems with the government and seek emergency assistance. The grievances received were resolved as they came in.

The officials informed the Central team that more than 95 per cent of the cyclone-related grievances received through Mana Mitra were resolved. They also apprised that the fishermen were prevented in advance from venturing into the sea for fishing. A total of 30,043 fishing boats belonging to fishermen were kept within the harbours, the officials told the Central team.

The Central team was greatly impressed by the manner in which public grievances were received through Mana Mitra WhatsApp Governance in cyclone-affected areas and resolved from time to time. The Central team stated that the idea was excellent and that it enabled people to easily communicate their problems to the government through WhatsApp.

The team observed that this type of initiative would serve as a model for other states and stated that it would recommend to the Central Government that all states establish facilities similar to Mana Mitra. The Central team also appreciated the manner in which disaster management was monitored in real time through Real Time Governance.
