Odisha BJP mega blood donation camp sets world record with 8,810 units collected on PM Modi’s birthday

Bhubaneswar, Sep 17 (UNI) A mega blood donation camp organised by the Odisha BJP Yuva Morcha in Bhubaneswar on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday on Thursday created a new world record by collecting 8,810 units of blood in a single day at a single location through a single camp and organisation.
The mega camp, held at the IDCO Exhibition Ground, was organised under the leadership of Yuva Morcha state president Abhilash Panda and under the direct supervision of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and state BJP president Manmohan Samal.
A representative of the World Book of Records presented a certificate recognising the achievement at the programme.
Housing and Urban Development Minister and state coordinator of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, Krishna Chandra Mahapatra, congratulated the voluntary blood donors and described the record as a special gift to Prime Minister Modi on his birthday.
Panda said the record was the result of collective teamwork and reflected the affection and enthusiasm of Odisha's youth for the Prime Minister.
Addressing the camp, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said the five decades of public service and 25 years of uninterrupted governance of Prime Minister Modi had brought about transformation in the country.
He said the Odisha government had launched the Atal Blood Donation Campaign to strengthen blood security in the state, with an allocation of Rs 50.45 crore in the 2026-27 Budget.
Under the initiative, blood storage facilities were being established in new medical colleges while existing blood banks were being modernised, Majhi said.
The Chief Minister said the most meaningful tribute to Prime Minister Modi would be for young people to spare some time from their daily lives for social service and dedicate themselves to serving the nation.
State BJP president and Rajya Sabha member Manmohan Samal said the occasion was marked by inspiration, enthusiasm and confidence, stressing that service was the supreme duty.
He said the message of service should reach every section of society and added that the campaign had begun with the mega blood donation drive.
Samal said it was the collective responsibility of society to ensure that no person lost his or her life because of a shortage of blood. The demand for blood had increased considerably since the coronavirus pandemic, while shortages continued to deprive many people of timely treatment, he said.
He thanked the BJP workers, organisations, volunteers and supporters who participated in the mega blood donation camp.
Yuva Morcha state president Abhilash Panda congratulated the volunteers, youth and students who came forward to donate blood and make the programme a success.
Referring to the government's digital blood-bank portal Raktkosh, Panda said voluntary donors were being encouraged to register on the platform. The initiative was aimed at helping people access blood without having to rush from one hospital to another in search of donors, he said.
Panda said youth and student organisations had decided to make Prime Minister Modi's birthday meaningful not through cake-cutting or bursting crackers, but through blood donation and service to the people.
