Job trainee doctors in Himachal to be allowed to pursue PG courses

Shimla, October 5 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Sunday directed the Health Department to allow job trainee doctors to pursue postgraduate (PG) courses, while doctors seeking permission for super-speciality courses would also be allowed to do so with enhanced bond conditions.
Presiding over a review meeting of the Health Department here, Sukhu said the duration and amount of the bonds would be enhanced to ensure that doctors return to the state after completing their courses and continue to serve people. This, he said, would ultimately benefit patients in Himachal Pradesh.
The Chief Minister said the state government was taking several measures to provide world-class healthcare facilities and that strengthening diagnostic services remained a key focus.
He directed all government medical colleges to digitise end-to-end data related to MRI, CT scan, X-ray and ultrasound examinations conducted in their radiology departments by October 20. Adequate manpower would be provided for the purpose, he said.
Sukhu also directed all medical colleges to submit department-wise requirements of nurses and technicians so that the recruitment process could be expedited.
He said the state government had constituted an expert committee to examine a proposal for establishing Centres of Excellence with specialised departments in all government medical colleges, including the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialities (AIMSS), Chamiana.
The committee would identify two to four departments in each government medical college, including AIMSS Chamiana, with the potential to be developed as Centres of Excellence.
These specialised centres would provide advanced multidisciplinary treatment for complex, rare and critical diseases requiring specialised expertise, advanced technology and facilities beyond conventional departmental services.
The Chief Minister further said the government was planning to send medical students abroad on exposure visits to familiarise them with global best practices and provide them with practical experience that could subsequently be utilised for the benefit of patients in the state.
He directed the concerned authorities to expedite the selection process for these exposure visits.
