Three juveniles escape Faridabad observation home after cutting bathroom grille, police launch search

Chandigarh, Oct 5 (UNI) Three juveniles escaped from an observation home in Faridabad after allegedly cutting through a bathroom window grille late at night, prompting police and crime branch teams to launch a search for them, officials said on Monday.
The incident took place at an observation home run under the Women and Child Development Department in Faridabad's NIT-5 area. According to preliminary information, the three juveniles broke through the bathroom window grille before making their way out of the facility.
Police are examining CCTV footage from the observation home and surrounding areas to establish their escape route and determine whether security lapses contributed to the incident.
Officials familiar with the matter said the three juveniles had been lodged at the facility in connection with separate criminal cases. Two had been staying there since 2024, while the third had been admitted in 2025. They face allegations in serious criminal cases, the officials said, without giving further details because they are minors.
The juveniles are from Gurugram, Nuh and Hisar districts of Haryana, according to officials.
NIT police station in-charge Mahavir said police had received a formal complaint from the observation home authorities and teams had been deployed to trace the three.
“We have received a complaint from the observation home. Police are checking CCTV footage installed in and around the area, and searches are being conducted at possible locations,” Mahavir said.
Crime branch teams have also joined the operation, with police examining places where the juveniles could have gone after leaving the facility.
Investigators are separately looking into how the juveniles managed to cut or break the bathroom grille and move out of the premises without being stopped by security personnel.
Police said the circumstances of the escape, including any possible lapse in security arrangements at the observation home, would be examined as part of the investigation.
“The immediate priority is to trace the three juveniles as soon as possible,” Mahavir said.
Authorities have not disclosed the identities of the three, in accordance with legal protections governing juveniles.
