Arunachal: Guv calls for stronger community participation in forest conservation

Itanagar, Oct 1 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) and Head of Forest Force (HoFF) Santosh Kumar called on Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik at Lok Bhavan here today and discussed measures for conservation of the State’s rich flora and fauna and protection of its biodiversity.
The discussions also covered initiatives to enhance green cover and ecological balance in urban areas.
The Governor said Arunachal Pradesh, with its vast forests, rich biodiversity and vibrant indigenous traditions, has a special responsibility towards environmental conservation. He emphasised that economic growth, infrastructure development and improved quality of life should be pursued while preserving and sustainably harnessing the State’s natural wealth.
Parnaik advised the Forest Department to intensify public awareness campaigns and encourage greater community participation in conservation initiatives. He stressed the importance of engaging youth and promoting a sense of pride in protecting the State’s natural heritage.
The Governor said that by drawing on traditional cultural values and adopting sustainable development practices, Arunachal Pradesh could build a greener, healthier and more resilient future.
Kumar, who recently assumed charge as PCCF and HoFF, assured the Governor of strengthening conservation efforts across the State.
He said emphasis would be placed on improving green cover, protecting wildlife habitats and promoting sustainable environmental practices through active community participation.
