Arunachal: Youth held with heroin in Naharlagun; 18.8 grams seized

Itanagar, July 1 (UNI) In a significant breakthrough in the fight against narcotics, the Naharlagun Police yesterday arrested a 23-year-old youth with a substantial quantity of suspected heroin during a raid conducted at Naharlagun, police said today.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Inspector Krishnendu Dev, alongwith SI Niri Rama, constables Sanu T Raaj, Likha Akin, and lady head constable Nime Taba, under the supervision of SDPO Rishi Longdo, swiftly launched an operation in Naharlagun’s Damsite area.
The accused, Techi Lala, a resident of Rakap village in Papum Pare district, was allegedly caught red-handed while consuming suspected contraband. A personal search conducted in compliance with Section 50 of the NDPS Act resulted in the recovery of a used syringe, an empty vial, and a half-used plastic vial suspected to contain heroin.
Further search of his scooty (AR 01J/2244) in the presence of Executive Magistrate Khoda Bath led to the discovery of 15 plastic vials containing suspected heroin, weighing approximately 18.8 grams including the containers. The vials were hidden beneath the seat of the two-wheeler.
A case has been registered at Naharlagun Police Station under Sections 21(b)/27/29 of the NDPS Act, and the accused was taken into custody.
Naharlagun Superintendent of Police Dr Nyelam Nega commended the police team for their swift response and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to eradicating drug abuse from the region. He also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with the police in the fight against narcotics.
