Assam woman alleges former Uttarakhand minister raped her, fathered her son

By Prithviraj Singh
Dehradun, Nov 8 (UNI) Twenty-three-year-old Jenny episode of Uttarakhand Congress involving former cabinet minister and state election committee head Harak Singh Rawat has resurfaced in Dehradun after the Assamese woman for the first time opened her mouth alleging she was raped by Rawat.
She has lodged a formal complaint with Dehradun police and demanded a DNA test of her 23-year-old son and the Congress leader to establish the truth.

Speaking to media in Dehradun,, Jenny, a native of Assam alleged that she was raped by Harak Singh Rawat in 2003 when the Congress leader was a cabinet minister in ND Tiwari government.
She claimed that she could not make it public out of fear, as Rawat was the minister and wielded huge influence in the state administration.
She charged that former minister fathered her 23-year-old-son who is deprived of father's name.
Jenny has demanded a CBI probe and DNA of herself, her son and also of Harak Simgh Rawat from the Pushkar Singh Dhami government. saying "My son today has no name of father with him. I want his father's name for him. I was raped in 2003 at the age of 16. Please tell me if a 16 years old girl has enough understanding."
Jenny informed that she stayed at Harak Singh Rawat's official residence in Dehradun for two months in 2003 and toured several places with him.
Jenny denied that she was contacted by any BJP leader before coming to Dehradun from Assam to lodge a formal complaint against Harak Singh Rawat.
Explaining the reason behind what made her speak after 23 years of the incident, Jenny said, "I could not speak then for fear of Harak Singh Rawat's political clout as he was minister, no one supported me."
She further said, "I didn't want to keep my son among animals here and decided to return Assam."
Jenny stressed, "Now I want justice.'
Earlier, Jenny's arrival at Dehradun Press Club in a gleaming new SUV came as a big surprise for all. Vehicle was driven by a masked man with Jenny too wearing mask sitting in the back. Jenny revealed entire sequence of events one after another from 2003. At times she became emotional but voiced her pain with confidence amd conviction.
Jenny stated that after the incident she came to Dehradun only once in last 23 years to collect her son's birth certificate. She alleged "police forced her to leave Dehradun under pressure from Harak Singh Rawat.
"Harak Singh was a minister. I could never come here for fear of his clout but had been getting news about this place."
Jenny emphasised that she was able to gather strength to come to Dehradun when CM Dhami recently made her reference recently.
"My hopes for justice renewed after Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami's recent statement on Jenny episode. I came to know that several political leaders were making public statements taking my name. They also talked about DNA test. This made me come here," she noted.
Jenny demanded reinvestigation by CBI in her case and claimed that first probe by the central investigation agency was mere a formality. She alleged that lawyer who was supposed to work for her sided with Rawat
Jenny alleged that CBI merely went through the motions of an investigation. She claimed that the lawyer approached her to get her mere signatures, and CBI met her only once. How could investigation be over under these circumstances, she questioned.
Before the press conference, Jenny met DGP Uttarakhand at police headquarters and submitted a written complaint against the state Congress Election Committee Chairperson demanding for DNA test of her, Harak Singh Rawat and her son to establish the truth of allegations made by her. She also expressed her willingness to undergo narco analysis test if required by the agencies.
Meanwhile, Harak Singh Rawat has denied the charges levelled against him. He claimed it was an attempt by Dhami government to tarnish his image and he will take legal recourse against it.
"BJP government has hatched a conspiracy to tarnish my image. Sudden surfacing of Jenny after 23 years is a part of the conspiracy. I will file defamation suit against all those involved in conspiracy with Jenny," he added.
