Bhupender Yadav accuses Cong of betraying OBCs

Bengaluru, June 28 (UNI) Union Minister Bhupender Yadav today accused the Congress of decades-long betrayal of the Other Backward Classes (OBCs), charging the party with neglect, symbolic politics, and minority appeasement both at the national level and in Karnataka.
His remarks came during a press interaction in Bengaluru and drew direct connections between central Congress policy failures and their reflection in the governance of Karnataka.
Yadav asserted that it was only under the BJP-led government that long-pending OBC reforms were implemented.
“Had the BJP not formed the government, the Mandal Commission recommendations would have remained in cold storage. It was only after Modi Ji assumed leadership that OBCs received constitutional recognition,” he said.
He accused the Congress of treating the Constitution as “a pocket symbol” rather than a living document, asserting that the BJP upholds its spirit as envisioned by Babasaheb Ambedkar. “Unlike Congress, we don’t just carry the Constitution—we implement it,” Yadav remarked.
Yadav drew a striking parallel between Congress governance at the Centre and in Karnataka. He alleged that the Karnataka government led by Siddaramaiah deliberately shelved the ₹165 crore Kantaraaj Commission report on caste census, claiming this was done on the high command’s instructions to avoid upsetting minority vote banks.
“Why didn’t Congress conduct a caste census during their 70 years in power? Why did they dump the Kantaraaj Commission findings? They talk of social justice but act for political convenience,” he asked.
Yadav highlighted that the Modi government approved a caste-based census for the first time since independence, saying it was not just a statistical exercise but a tool for framing equitable, data-driven welfare policies.
On the larger ideological debate, he took aim at the Congress’ renewed focus on words like ‘secular’ and ‘socialist’ in the Constitution.
“Congress keeps throwing around these terms, but when it comes to governance, they’ve failed every backward class. Our motto, Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, is rooted in real execution, not slogans,” he said.
Shifting focus sharply to Karnataka, Yadav said the Congress government is drowning in infighting and public mistrust. “Their own leaders are calling each other dishonest. The people know this government is neck-deep in corruption,” he said, referring to recent allegations of bribery and administrative mismanagement.
Referring to the tragic death of 11 people in a recent stampede, Yadav said the blame cannot be shifted to the police alone. “This was a case of total administrative collapse by the Congress government,” he noted.
On the recent spate of tiger deaths in the Male Mahadeshwara and Bandipur forests, Yadav said an interim report has been received and a committee formed to probe the matter.
“This is one of the most ecologically sensitive regions in India. We are treating the issue with urgency and seriousness,” he said.
