Bihar govt. warns of legal action for holding protests beyond designed site Gardanibagh

Patna, Oct 12 (UNI) Close on the heels of Central government de-notifying Jantar Mantar as designated protest site designating Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and CBD Ground in East Delhi for organizing protests and demonstrations following the suggestions of the Supreme Court, the Bihar government on Monday warned that protests held at any other locations in the state capital except the designated protest site in Gardanibagh, will invite legal action.
The Patna district administration today directed organisations and individuals to hold demonstrations and sit-ins only at the designated protest site in Gardanibagh, warning that protests held at other locations in violation of the instructions will invite legal action.
Reviewing instances of organisations and individuals staging protests in support of their demands without prior notice or the required permission, the District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police, Patna, made it clear that Gardanibagh is the designated venue for such activities and demonstrations at other locations will not be permitted.
They said ensuring public convenience, smooth traffic movement and the maintenance of law and order remained the administration''s top priorities.
Protests at unauthorised locations disrupt traffic and cause inconvenience to commuters, while also adversely affecting the functioning of important institutions, including schools, colleges, hospitals and courts, they said.
The administration further pointed out that such demonstrations inconvenience traders and business establishments, disrupting commercial activities and the daily lives of residents.
They expressed concern that traffic disruptions could create serious difficulties for elderly people, patients, schoolchildren and emergency services, including ambulances. Delays in the movement of emergency vehicles could hamper the timely delivery of essential services and cause hardship to the public, they added.
The District Magistrate and the SSP appealed to all organisations and individuals to raise their demands peacefully and democratically at the designated protest site in Gardanibagh.
They also urged protesters to cooperate with the administration in maintaining traffic flow, public order and the convenience of citizens.
The administration reiterated that legal action would be taken in accordance with applicable rules against those holding demonstrations outside the designated venue or violating the prescribed instructions.
