Bengal STF arrests two in inter-state illegal arms trafficking probe

Kolkata, Oct 12 (UNI) The Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police has arrested several accused individuals from Bihar and Jharkhand following an operation against an inter-state illegal arms trafficking ring.
After a continuous 17-day investigation, Ganesh Rana and Pawan Kumar Singh were arrested from Hazaribagh in Jharkhand and Jamui in Bihar, respectively. Police sources report that approximately four lakh rupees in cash, along with firearms, were recovered during the operation.
On September 25, the STF arrested Mohammad Farhan, alias Musan, from Durgapur in Paschim Bardhaman. A search of his hideout led to the recovery of two pistols, two magazines, and 20 rounds of live ammunition. Subsequently, an investigation was launched to identify the suppliers of the illegal arms, the trafficking routes, and the ringleaders behind the operation.
Interrogation of Farhan revealed the name of Shahnaz Alam, alias Guddu. He was arrested following a raid in Munger, Bihar. Police sources indicate that the investigation later led to the identification of several other individuals involved.
Acting on confidential information, STF members conducted raids across various locations in Bihar and Jharkhand. On October 10, Ganesh Rana was arrested in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, and Pawan Kumar Singh in Jamui, Bihar.
Investigators claim that additional firearms were also recovered during the operation.
Preliminary police estimates suggest that the recovered cash—amounting to approximately four lakh rupees—likely came from the sale of illegal arms. However, authorities are still investigating who else is involved in the trade, the source of the weapons, and their intended destinations.
Investigators hope that interrogating the arrested individuals will yield further details regarding the syndicate's extensive network. UNI BGA NST CDS
