BJP accuses Rohit Pawar of misleading public over MPSC Chairman resignation

Mumbai, Oct 6 (UNI) The Maharashtra BJP on Tuesday accused Nationalist Congress Party Sharad Pawar faction MLA Rohit Pawar of spreading incorrect information about the resignation of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission chairman and alleged that he was attempting to turn the students protest into a political agitation.
Maharashtra BJP chief spokesperson Navnath Ban said Rohit Pawar should study the Constitution before making statements on the issue. He maintained that the MPSC chairman does not submit a resignation to the Chief Minister but to the Governor or the President and said the chairman of the commission enjoys constitutional protection under Article 317.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP state office, Ban said ministers submit their resignations to the Chief Minister while members of the Legislative Assembly submit their resignations to the Assembly Speaker and members of the Legislative Council to the Council Chairman. Similarly, he said, a separate constitutional procedure has been prescribed for the chairman of the Public Service Commission. Ban accused Rohit Pawar of misleading the public without understanding this process.
Ban further alleged that Rohit Pawar was using students for his political interests and claimed that the agitation had failed to receive adequate support from students. He alleged that workers associated with Baramati Agro had to be brought to participate in the protest.
Referring to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray, Ban said Thackeray had also reached the agitation and made it clear that the MPSC chairman enjoyed legal protection.
Questioning Rohit Pawar's political standing, Ban said he had become an MLA because of his grandfather's political legacy. He further said that if political declarations were made during an MPSC agitation about preventing an MLA from entering the Legislative Assembly and activists applauded such statements, the people of Maharashtra should decide whether it was a students movement or a political agitation.
