BJP’s 'infiltrator' allegations against Hyderabad's Old City exposed: Congress leader

Hyderabad, Nov 5 (UNI) Hyderabad Lok Sabha Congress in-charge Mohammed Waliullah Sameer on Thursday accused the BJP of maligning Hyderabad's Old City by repeatedly alleging that Rohingya Muslims and illegal Bangladeshi immigrants had been enrolled as voters.
Reacting to Hyderabad District Election Officer and GHMC Commissioner R V Karnan's clarification that no Rohingya or Bangladeshi nationals were detected in the electoral rolls of the district's 15 Assembly constituencies, Sameer in a statement, said the findings had exposed the BJP's allegations as politically motivated.
He said only 10 to 12 Nepali nationals, who had entered India legally, were identified in Sanathnagar and removed from the rolls for not being Indian citizens.
Questioning union Home Minister Amit Shah's claim about three crore illegal infiltrators identified during the nationwide SIR exercise, he demanded constituency-wise evidence to substantiate the allegations.
Sameer also expressed concern over the exclusion of 9,19,088 voters, accounting for 39.46 per cent of the pre-revision electorate, from the draft electoral rolls of Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency.
Yakutpura recorded the highest exclusions at 1,54,982, followed by Chandrayangutta (1,48,869) and Malakpet (1,47,799).
He demanded a constituency-wise breakdown of the deleted names, an independent review of possible wrongful exclusions and restoration of all eligible voters.
Alleging that genuine voters could be deprived of their franchise, he sought a public apology from BJP leaders for targeting Old City residents and said electoral roll revision should protect democracy rather than become an instrument of political intimidation.
