Congress spreading false propaganda over electoral roll revision: Ram Madhav

Hyderabad, Nov 5 (UNI) BJP National Vice-President Ram Madhav on Thursday accused the Congress party and its leader Rahul Gandhi of conducting a smear campaign against the BJP and the Election Commission by raising allegations of EVM manipulation and vote theft following electoral defeats.
Addressing the media here, he said the Congress was attempting to undermine the country's democratic institutions by questioning the Election Commission and the electoral process. He alleged that the party was spreading misinformation about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, clarifying that electoral roll revisions had been conducted several times since 1952, with the last major exercise in 2004.
Defending the revision process, Madhav said it was necessary to remove the deceased, duplicate entries and migrated voters from the rolls, besides identifying ineligible entries. He questioned the Congress's opposition to the exercise and alleged that it was spreading false claims that 13 crore names had been deleted from electoral rolls.
Referring to the BJP's Maha Padayatras in Hyderabad and Nirmal, including the march attended by union Home Minister Amit Shah, he said the party was exposing what he termed the Congress's misleading campaign. He also criticised the Congress rally at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi, claiming it failed to attract the expected crowds.
Recalling the Emergency imposed in 1975 following the Allahabad High Court verdict against Indira Gandhi and alleged electoral irregularities during the 1987 Jammu and Kashmir elections, Madhav accused the Congress of having a history of undermining democracy. He maintained that the BJP had won elections through democratic means with public support.
