Patra says Rahul has 'no data, only galataa', challenges him to debate Modi in Parliament

Bengaluru, Nov 5 (UNI) BJP MP and national spokesperson Sambit Patra on Thursday launched a blistering attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of indulging in political theatrics without presenting facts or substantive arguments and declaring that he had "no data, only galataa".
Addressing a press conference here, Patra questioned Gandhi's demand for a debate with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying political discussions between leaders should take place on the floor of Parliament rather than through public demonstrations and street-level confrontations.
"Rahul Gandhi yesterday wanted to have a debate with the Prime Minister. It's been 24 years. On one side the Prime Minister would be seated, and on the other side he would be seated. Rahul Gandhi carries no data about anything. He has no knowledge about most of the processes going on in this country. But as far as spreading 'galata' (mess) is concerned, he is number one," Patra said.
"Should debates between leaders happen on the streets, or on the floor of the highest temple of democracy, that is Parliament? Should squabbling take place on the streets, or should it happen in Parliament?" he asked.
Patra further alleged that Gandhi lacked the patience to participate in parliamentary proceedings, questioning how he could demand a direct debate with the Prime Minister while allegedly failing to utilise Parliament as a platform for political discussion.
"Rahul Gandhi does not have the patience to sit in Parliament for more than 5-6 minutes. A person who cannot sit in Parliament for 5-6 minutes at a stretch will not want to have a debate in Parliament. He would prefer a street brawl to a Parliament," he said.
Turning his attack towards the INDIA bloc, Patra questioned the Opposition alliance's unity and political credibility, pointing to the contrasting positions taken by the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party in different states.
He referred to the November 1 rally organised by the INDIA bloc at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan and challenged the Opposition's claim that 10 lakh people would attend the gathering. Patra asserted that the actual turnout was considerably lower and used the alleged discrepancy to question the alliance's organisational strength.
"Recently, all the members of the so-called 'INDI alliance' gathered at Ramlila Maidan. They claimed that 10 lakh would assemble there, but in reality, there were no more than 20,000 people. That is the combined strength of the entire 'INDI Alliance'," he said.
Patra said Gandhi should first engage in a debate with his own alliance partners before challenging the Prime Minister. He cited the Congress' criticism of the AAP government in Punjab and questioned how the two parties could continue to describe themselves as allies while accusing each other of corruption.
"You claim that Arvind Kejriwal is your friend and that he is part of the 'INDI alliance'. Yet, just yesterday, you were the one asserting that if there is any government that is the most corrupt, it is Arvind Kejriwal's government in Punjab. Here in Delhi, you act as if you are brothers, but in Punjab, you label his government the most corrupt. So, what is the truth? Are you together, or are you separate? This is something which should be debated," he said.
The BJP leader maintained that the Opposition was struggling to present a coherent political position, alleging that its leaders were united more by their opposition to Modi than by a common political or governance agenda.
Patra's remarks came against the backdrop of the INDIA bloc's November 1 rally at Ramlila Maidan, where Opposition leaders protested alleged electoral irregularities and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The rally had brought together several Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, amid the continuing political confrontation over electoral rolls and allegations of irregularities in the election process.
Patra sought to turn the Opposition's campaign into a question of its own credibility, arguing that political allegations should be supported by facts and that the Congress leader should be prepared to defend his claims in Parliament.
