Congress factionalism now fully exposed in Himachal: Jai Ram Thakur

Shimla, October 8 (UNI) Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in Himachal Pradesh Assembly Jai Ram Thakur on Thursday alleged that factionalism within the ruling Congress had come out in the open, claiming that the party was facing serious questions over its leadership.
Addressing mediapersons after attending a BJP Mahila Morcha meeting and inaugurating a rangoli programme titled “Seva Ke Rang, Rashtra Ke Sang” at Mandi, Jai Ram Thakur said the recent statements by former MP Pratibha Singh had exposed the intense infighting within the Congress.
He said Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu might believe that he had succeeded in “dislodging” the Holly Lodge, but such a perception was misplaced.
“A leader who has made a significant contribution to the overall development of Himachal Pradesh cannot be erased or continuously insulted in this manner. This can only reflect the narrow culture of the Congress party,” he said.
Jai Ram Thakur said the Chief Minister frequently spoke about factions within the BJP but should first look within his own party.
“Today, not one but countless factions have emerged within the Congress and serious questions have been raised over the party’s leadership,” he alleged.
The Leader of Opposition also criticised the Congress over protests being held in Delhi against the Election Commission, saying the Gandhi family was not above the Constitution.
He urged Congress leaders to refrain from creating an atmosphere of anarchy in the country and said constitutional institutions and positions should be respected.
Taking a swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Jai Ram Thakur said it appeared that he was “highly influenced” by the prevailing political situation in neighbouring Bangladesh.
“He seems to be under the misconception that an elected government can be brought down by creating an atmosphere of anarchy in the country. But he is living under a big misconception,” he said.
Earlier, Jai Ram Thakur inaugurated the “Seva Ke Rang, Rashtra Ke Sang” rangoli programme organised by the BJP Mahila Morcha at Indira Market Park and attended an important meeting of the Mahila Morcha.
He said programmes were being organised across the country to mark 25 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s successful and dedicated public service.
He said people across the country wished that Narendra Modi would continue to lead the nation successfully for the next 25 years as well.
Former minister and Mandi in-charge Suresh Bhardwaj, MLAs Inder Singh and Purna Chand Thakur, BJP district president Nihal Chand Sharma, Mandi Municipal Corporation Mayor Suman Thakur and Mahila Morcha district president Seema Sharma were among those present on the occasion.
