Haryana: Rs 2 lakh lost in cyber fraud recovered after suspect transactions were frozen

Hisar, Oct 8 (UNI) Hisar Police have recovered the entire Rs 2 lakh lost by a cyber fraud victim after investigators promptly contacted the bank and secured a hold on the defrauded funds, preventing their further transfer, officials said on Thursday.
The amount was credited back to the victim's bank account on Thursday, following a technical investigation conducted by the Cyber Crime Police Station in Hisar.
According to a police official, the victim had lodged a complaint alleging that unidentified cyber fraudsters had cheated him of Rs 2 lakh.
Acting on the complaint, Assistant Sub-Inspector Sandeep Kumar initiated a technical investigation and immediately coordinated with the bank concerned to freeze the disputed amount before it could be transferred further.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Assistant Superintendent of Police Mayank Mudgil, IPS, and on the directions of the Hisar Superintendent of Police.
Police said timely intervention helped secure the entire amount, which was subsequently restored to the complainant's account.
The Superintendent of Police urged cyber fraud victims to report incidents without delay through the national cybercrime helpline 1930 or at the nearest cyber police station.
He said prompt reporting significantly improved the chances of blocking fraudulent transactions and recovering stolen funds.
Police also warned that bank accounts, digital transactions and other electronic evidence linked to cyber fraud would be scrutinised to identify those responsible and initiate legal action.
Residents were advised not to click on suspicious links or disclose OTPs, PINs, CVV numbers or banking credentials to unknown persons.
Police did not disclose the method used in the fraud, the date of the original transaction or whether any suspects had been identified or arrested.
