Congress Tells EC To Publish Names of SIR Excluded Voters By Constituency And Booth-Wise

Mumbai, Sep 22 (UNI A Congress delegation led by PCC President Harshwardhan Sapkal met the Maharashtra State Chief Electoral Officer S Chokalingam here on Tuesday and demanded that the Election Commission publish as well as publicise the names of all suspicious voters excluded as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, both booth-wise and constituency-wise.
Emerging from the meeting, Sakpal, speaking to the media, said, “The BJP is depriving voters of their constitutional right to vote by excluding their names using the Election Commission,” demanding that the September 20 deadline be extended for registering claims and objections.
“This conspiracy, which is being implemented across the country, has reached Maharashtra as well, and the names of 3 crore 28 lakh voters in the state of Maharashtra have been excluded under the SIR. All this is being implemented in a very well-planned manner, and the Election Commission is not publishing the list of excluded voters or giving out any figures. There is no transparency in the working of the Election Commission,” he charged.
Giving details about the electorate in the state, he said the total voters in Maharashtra is 9 crore 78 lakh, of which if 3 crore 28 lakh voters are excluded, only 6.5 crore voters would remain. "The population of Maharashtra is 12 crore, and the adult population is above 10 crore, as per government figures. Hence, there ought to be 10 crore voters. Yet, according to the Election Commission’s figures, there are only 6.5 crore voters," Sapkal said and asked, “So how is it that figures gathered from different government departments turn out to be different?"
Even as the Congress demands extension of the deadline for registering claims and objections, there has been no positive response from the Election Commission,” he said and drew attention to the fact that the poll panel has not issued notices to the 1 crore 22 lakh voters whose names are listed as “anomaly”. The data of 3 crore 28 lakhs of all suspicious voters excluded under SIR should be published, and the list should be published on the Election Commission's website, constituency-wise and booth-wise, but it has not been done. “Why is the Election Commission hiding this data? Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and two Deputy Chief Ministers are depriving lakhs of voters of their rights using the SIR process in Maharashtra,” Sapkal said.
The BJP-led Mahayuti government, he said, came to power through vote theft. "Rahul Gandhi has stated, with evidence, how vote theft was carried out in the Kamptee constituency of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Nagpur district, and an article by Rahul Gandhi regarding this was also published in the newspaper. It was shown with evidence how 40 lakh voters increased in Maharashtra," Sapkal said. “Even the Election Commission has accepted that the whereabouts of 75 lakh voters are unknown. This means that the BJP grand alliance government has come to power with the votes of these 75 lakh bogus voters,” Sapkal said.
