ECI begins early review of UP poll preparedness, senior officials meet in Meerut

New Delhi, Nov 2 (UNI) The Election Commission of India has intensified its preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, undertaking a high-level review of election management, administrative readiness and security arrangements across 18 districts spread over four administrative divisions.
The review meeting was held in Meerut on Monday, under the chairmanship of Senior Deputy Election Commissioner Manish Garg. The meeting was attended by the Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer, senior officials of the EC and senior administrative and police officers from the Meerut, Saharanpur, Moradabad and Aligarh divisions.
According to a post by the Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer on the social media platform X, the deliberations focused on assessing preparations for the forthcoming Assembly elections, particularly the arrangements required for their smooth and secure conduct across the 18 districts.
The meeting brought together divisional commissioners, police commissioners, inspectors general and deputy inspectors general of police, district election officers, senior superintendents of police and superintendents of police, besides senior Election Commission officials.
The participation of top administrative and police officials reflects the Commission's emphasis on ensuring close coordination between election authorities, the state administration and law enforcement agencies well ahead of the electoral exercise. The review also sought to assess the preparedness of district-level election machinery and identify areas requiring attention so that necessary arrangements could be put in place in advance.
Uttar Pradesh, with 403 Assembly constituencies, is scheduled to hold its next Assembly elections in 2027. Given the scale of the electoral exercise, the polls will require extensive logistical planning, adequate deployment of security personnel and effective coordination among the Election Commission, district administrations and police authorities.
The Meerut meeting is part of the Commission's wider exercise to evaluate election preparedness and strengthen the administrative and security framework before the formal announcement of the Assembly election schedule.
