Rahul Gandhi accuses Modi of foreign backing, throws open debate challenge

New Delhi, Nov 2 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that foreign forces had played a role in his rise to power and continued to sustain his government, while claiming that India's financial system was increasingly under foreign influence.
In a strongly worded post on social media platform X, the Congress leader challenged Modi to an open public debate on his allegations, declaring that he was ready to face the Prime Minister on any platform and at any time.
“Mr Modi, stop lying to this nation. You became PM because of foreign help. You remain PM because of foreign help,” Rahul said, directly questioning the Prime Minister's political standing and alleging external support for his continuation in office.
Escalating his attack, Rahul claimed that India's financial system was “fully controlled and supported by foreigners” and alleged that foreign social media platforms were also firmly backing the Prime Minister.
“I challenge you to an open debate about this. Any stage, any time. Come if you have the guts,” he said, seeking to turn his allegations into a direct political confrontation with Modi.
In an even sharper personal attack, the Congress leader asserted that the Prime Minister would not accept his challenge because he was apprehensive about what Rahul claimed to know about him.
“You won't dare, because you are terrified of what I know about you,” he said.
Rahul also shared the same message in Hindi, reiterating his accusations and his challenge to the Prime Minister, thereby intensifying the political exchange between the Congress and the BJP.
The latest salvo comes amid the Congress leader's sustained criticism of the Modi government's economic policies, its alleged proximity to powerful business interests and what the Opposition describes as growing external influence over India's economic and institutional affairs. Rahul has repeatedly questioned the government's approach to economic management and the concentration of financial power, making these issues central to his political campaign against the BJP.
However, Rahul did not furnish any specific evidence in his post to substantiate his allegations concerning foreign involvement in Modi's rise to power, the extent of foreign influence over India's financial system or the backing allegedly extended by overseas social media platforms. The Prime Minister's response to the challenge was not immediately available.
By publicly challenging Modi to a debate, Rahul has sought to shift the latest political confrontation from social media allegations to a direct face-to-face exchange, putting the onus on the Prime Minister to respond to the charges. UNI SKA AAB
