Fadnavis assures aid for drought-hit farmers before Diwali

Amravati, Sep 24 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday assured farmers affected by scanty rainfall that the state government would provide financial assistance before Diwali without waiting for Central aid.
During his visit to drought-affected regions of Vidarbha, Fadnavis made a major announcement, stating that the Maharashtra government would extend relief to farmers from its own funds rather than wait for assistance from the Centre.
He said the legal process involved in securing Central aid takes time and stressed that immediate support would be provided by the state government.
Fadnavis further said efforts were being made to ensure that the relief amount is credited to farmers’ bank accounts before Diwali.
During his visit to Washim and Amravati districts, the Chief Minister inspected soybean, cotton, and pigeon pea crops and interacted with farmers who have suffered losses due to inadequate rainfall.
Farmers urged the government to declare a drought and provide immediate relief.
He said crop surveys and panchnamas were being conducted on a priority basis and assured that eligible farmers would receive assistance once the assessment process was completed.
He also directed officials to expedite damage assessments and ensure that relief measures reach affected cultivators without delay.
The Chief Minister said the government was closely monitoring the situation in rain-deficit regions and would take all necessary steps to support farmers.
He reiterated that decisions regarding drought relief would be taken after district-wise reports were received and verified.
Several farmers raised slogans demanding a drought declaration during the chief minister’s visit, citing extensive crop losses and worsening agricultural conditions across parts of the Vidarbha region.
