Sharad Pawar-led NCP to organise protest against drought inaction

Mumbai, Sep 24 (UNI) The Sharad Pawar-led NCP officially announced on Thursday that it plans to organise a protest march in Pandharpur on September 26 under the leadership of its founder Sharad Pawar demanding that the Maharashtra government immediately declare a drought and provide assistance to farmers.
The decision was taken at a meeting of Sharad Pawar-ld NCP office bearers and workers in Pandharpur on Thursday, to plan the proposed protest march, party sources said.
After the meeting, senior party leader and Madha Lok Sabha MP Dhairyasheel Mohite Patil said that the drought situation in Maharashtra is much worse than expected.
“Farmers' crops have dried up due to lack of water, and there is a possibility of serious water and fodder shortages in rural areas. Sharad Pawar has demanded that the state immediately declare a drought and provide assistance to the farmers.
"This protest march will be taken out because the government is not taking sufficient action to officially declare a drought. We will take out this protest march because the government is not waking up,” senior Sharad Pawar-led NCP leader Dhairyasheel Mohite Patil told media persons.
The proposed protest march has been announced after NCP founder Sharad Pawar himself is scheduled to visit drought-affected areas from September 28 and interact with farmers.
The September 26 protest march in Pandharpur will try to draw the Fadnavis government’s attention to the issue of drought and demand immediate drought assistance to farmers as well as drought-related measures.
The proposed protest march is scheduled to start from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk in Pandharpur and proceed to the tehsil office.
Party sources informed that farmers, Sharad Pawar-led NCP office bearers, activists and district party leaders will participate in the march.
Senior party leader Dhairyasheel Mohite Patil said that the proposed protest march will witness the participation of MLAs and MPs from the district, including Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule, senior party leader Jayant Patil, as well as Shashikant Shinde.
According to party sources, Sharad Pawar-led NCP MLAs, MPs and farmers will go to the Vitthal temple in Pandharpur and offer prayers for the government to get the wisdom to take the right decisions, after which a demand will be made to officially declare a drought.
A memorandum will be also presented to the administration after the protest march, party sources said.
