Five killed, 27 hurt in multiple collision in TN, Stalin announces solatium

Chennai, May 17 (UNI) Five people were killed and 27 others injured in a multiple collision involving

a private bus, tractor and a maxi cab at Chinna Vadugapatti village in Karur district of Tamil Nadu on Saturday.

The accident occurred on the Namakkal-Karur National Highway and all the deceased are travelling in the maxi cab, police said.

Police said the private bus proceeding to Nagercoil from Bengaluru rammed into a tractor while

trying to overtake it, jumped the median and then collided with a Maxi cab heading towards Salem from Kovilpatti, in the opposite lane.

In the accident, four people--Sasikumar (52), Arun Tirupathi (45), his son Kamatchi Aswin (10),

Ezhil Datchana (12)--were killed on the spot, while Hemavarshini (20), who sustained grievous injuries and admitted to Karur Medical College hospital, succumbed without responding to

treatment.

A total of 27 people were injured in the accident and admitted to the hospital.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin expressing deep anguish and grief over the deaths, directed

the hospital authorities to provide the best of treatment to all the injured.

Offering his deepest condolences to the bereaved family members, he also announced a solatium

of Rs three lakh each to the families of the five deceased, Rs one lakh each to those who were seriously hurt and Rs 50,000 each to those who suffered simple injuries from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund, an official release said.
