Four arrested from Delhi for fraudulently obtaining an ATM card and committing ₹32 lakh fraud

Panchkula, Sep 26 (UNI) A Haryana Police spokesperson said that on September 13, 2026, a woman had lodged a complaint at Police Station Cyber Crime East, Gurugram, stating that several unauthorized transactions had been carried out from her father-in-law's bank account between March 7, 2026 and June 2, 2026 by unknown persons without his permission.
Upon verification, it was found that approximately ₹32.10 lakh had been fraudulently withdrawn from the bank account, the spokesperson added.
The spokesperson further stated that on contacting the bank, it was revealed that a new debit card had been issued in the name of the account holder, although neither had the account holder applied for it nor had he ever received the card.
An unknown person had allegedly misused the banking and KYC details to obtain the debit card and commit the fraud.
The mobile number registered with the bank account had become inactive and was subsequently allotted to another person.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Police Station Cyber Crime East, Gurugram, under the relevant sections of law, the spokesperson said.
Giving further details, the spokesperson said that acting on the complaint, the police team of Police Station Cyber Crime East, Gurugram, arrested four accused persons from Delhi on September 23, 2026.
The accused have been identified as Kunal Kashyap, resident of Kalkaji, New Delhi. Ankit, resident of Kalkaji, New Delhi, Mohammed Sahil, resident of Tughlakabad Extension, New Delhi, Sangeeta, resident of Asha Kiran Apartments, New Delhi.
During police interrogation, it was revealed that after the mobile number registered with the complainant's father-in-law's bank account was deactivated, the same number was subsequently allotted in the name of accused Kunal.
The accused started receiving bank transaction messages on that mobile number, the spokesperson said.
According to the investigation, the accused were tempted by the transaction alerts and, in connivance with one another, activated net banking for the bank account and obtained a debit/ATM card.
They then allegedly used the card to make purchases and withdraw money, thereby committing the fraud.
The accused allegedly obtained the debit card by visiting outside the complainant's residence, the spokesperson added.
The police have recovered 10 silver coins, a pair of gold earrings and two iPhones, which were allegedly purchased with the fraudulently obtained money, the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson further informed that further legal proceedings in the case will be carried out as per law, and the investigation is currently underway.
