Gov seeks faster progress on delayed Kaladan road project

Aizawl, Oct 5 (UNI) Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh has asked the agency executing the India-Myanmar Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project to step up work on the long-delayed 109.2-km Paletwa-Zorinpui road and make maximum progress during the next working season.
Singh made the remarks during a meeting with Sanjay Tripathi, Project Head of IRCON International Ltd's Myanmar Branch, at Lok Bhavan in Aizawl on Monday.
Tripathi briefed the Governor on the progress of the road project, which forms a key component of the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP), as well as the challenges affecting its execution and the way forward.
According to the presentation made by Tripathi, the Paletwa-Zorinpui stretch has achieved 25 per cent physical progress and 30 per cent financial progress so far.
Singh described the Kaladan project as an important initiative of the Central government and said it should be accorded the highest priority.
The project has faced prolonged delays and "cannot be delayed any further", the Governor said, stressing the need for all possible efforts to ensure its timely completion.
He directed the project authorities to maximise progress during the next working season and asked them to bring any difficulties affecting execution to his notice.
The Governor assured the project authorities of his support in addressing the difficulties and facilitating completion of the road at the earliest.
The Paletwa-Zorinpui road is part of the wider KMMTTP, aimed at providing an alternative connectivity route between India's Northeast and Myanmar through the Kaladan river and road network.
The project is strategically important for improving connectivity to Mizoram and linking the region with Myanmar's Sittwe port. UNI ZC SAS
