Haryana: Minister Shruti Choudhry inaugurates 10 schemes

Bhiwani, Oct 11 (UNI) Haryana Irrigation and Women and Child Development Minister Shruti Choudhry on Sunday inaugurated 10 irrigation and drainage projects and laid the foundation stone for another in Jhajjar district, involving a total investment of approximately Rs 37.50 crore, in a major initiative to protect agricultural land from recurring waterlogging and flooding.
The projects aim to strengthen drainage infrastructure in several villages, ensuring faster removal of accumulated rainwater and floodwater from agricultural fields and reducing the risk of crop damage.
Speaking at a function held at the Irrigation Rest House in Jhajjar, Choudhry said providing permanent solutions to waterlogging and improving agricultural infrastructure remained key priorities of the Haryana government.
"The state government is committed to protecting farmers' interests and strengthening basic infrastructure in the agricultural sector. Continuous efforts are being made to prevent waterlogging and provide relief to farmers through improved irrigation and drainage facilities," she said.
Among the major projects inaugurated was a Rs 4.29 crore pump house with a tail regulator and a discharge capacity of 50 cusecs on the Bisahan Link Drain.
The minister also commissioned the Kasni Link Drain, constructed at a cost of Rs 8.39 crore, and a Rs 6.88 crore tubewell-based scheme aimed at lowering the groundwater table in Nilahedi village.
Two underground high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipeline link-drain projects, costing Rs 2.25 crore and Rs 2.15 crore, respectively, were inaugurated in Akehri-Madanpur village.
Choudhry also commissioned 20-cusec and 10-cusec pumping arrangements on the Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Feeder, developed at a cost of Rs 97.41 lakh.
Other projects included a Rs 3.62 crore flood water drainage scheme in Dubladhan (Ghikyan), construction of the Dubladhan (Bidhyan) Link Drain at a cost of Rs 86.39 lakh, and a Rs 3.18 crore pipeline connecting Kasni Minor to Drain No. 8.
A Rs 2.26 crore reinforced cement concrete (RCC) pipeline project designed to drain accumulated water from agricultural fields in Mundahera village into the JLN Escape Channel was also inaugurated.
The minister laid the foundation stone for a Rs 2.63 crore project to install a 1,000-mm-diameter RCC pipeline connecting Dhakla, Chandol and Surkhpur villages to Drain No. 8.
The proposed project is expected to facilitate faster drainage of rainwater and floodwater, reducing prolonged waterlogging in agricultural fields and providing relief to farmers.
Choudhry said the projects would strengthen drainage infrastructure, minimise crop losses from stagnant water, and improve agricultural productivity in flood-prone areas.
Earlier, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Ravi Meena and Irrigation Department Superintending Engineer Satish Kumar briefed the minister on ongoing irrigation and drainage projects across the district.
The minister also participated in a plantation drive at the venue.
